Leeds Jazz, Sunday, December 7, 2008 20:30 at Seven Arts, Chapel Allerton, Leeds Tom Cawley's Curios Tom Cawley (piano); Sam Burgess (bass); Joshua Blackmore (drums). Tom Cawley's Curios are representatives of an emerging new jazz trend that has led them to early success and a 2008 BBC Jazz Award as Band of the Year. Tom, while seeming to emerge from nowhere fully formed with Curios (described by Time Out as 'state of the art'), has worked with saxophonist Dave O'Higgins, singer Gwyneth Herbert and many others. He continues to play alongside Pete Wareham and Seb Rochford in the seminal Acoustic Ladyland and the influence of that band, already felt by so many new, young UK bands who have followed in their wake, can be felt in Curios. It's a trio with a jazz sensibility but still pushing forward and not conforming to anyone's agenda but its own. Bass player, Sam Burgess and young drummer Josh Blackmore have brought their own individual capabilities to the mix and the continuous dialogue and interchange that goes on between these three players put Curios into a class of their own. www.tomcawley.co.ukwww.myspace.com/curiosbandTickets: Full/concessions ukp12/10 Reserve tickets by email: dave.gadd7@ntlworld.com
