The lovely people at HydePArk Picture House have let us take over the schedule for some late night screenings of some amazing underground films by maverick musicians and about maverick musicians
ALL FILM PROGRAMMES £6, OR INCLUDED WITH FESTIVAL PASS OR A PASS FOR THAT DAY.
18th April - 11.30 PM
Documentary featuring the Nihilist Spasm Band
Dir. Zev Asher 79mins | Canada 2000 | 15
In underground music circles, The Nihilist Spasm Band are certified international cult legends. In fact, they pretty much gave birth to the noise genre way back in 1965 when they began meeting for regular Monday night jam sessions. Years later,
not much has changed: they're still blowing and banging away on electric kazoos, homemade guitars and metal pots. What About Me shines a spotlight on these Canadian iconoclasts, their unique history and their never-ending devotion to loud sounds and freely improvised lunacy.
In What About Me, the band members are portrayed as the subversive, ear-splitting senior citizens that they are - chaos-loving geezers with a need for noise!
SATURDAY 19TH APRIL 2008
SIR RICHARD BISHOP, GOD d**n RELIGION (2008, USA, RUNNING 30 MINS APPROX)
This will be the Uk premiere of ex Sun City Girl Richard Bishop’s cracked movie God d**n Religion, which has just recieved a DVD release on Locust Music.(www.locustmusic.com) “For centuries, man has used organized religion to control the hearts and minds (not to mention the pocketbooks) of the ignorant masses. Well, Richard Bishop has decided he would like a piece of the action. This film is a diabolical experiment in hypnotic mind control—a phantasmagoric presentation of demonic and divine imagery, meticulously assembled and designed to put the viewer into an altered state of darkened awareness.
Includes original music from Elektronika Demonika, as well as unreleased material. If you ever wanted to go to hell and back, this film will get you halfway there.
Some viewers may find the imagery used in this film to be disturbing, but that’s the idea. Contains some strong sexual content (as all true religion should). Not for the weak-minded, faint of heart, or those suffering from occasional seizures.”

THE SHORT FILMS OF THE BONGOGLEEROS (25 mins approx)
"Ah! The Bongoleeros.... When asked to write this brief introduction I initially thought of dada, performance art and the deconstruction/reappropriation of rock 'n' roll. F**k that. There's nothing contrived or high-brow about these freaks....
Bongoleeros are a rock'n'roll band who play songs about creepin and a-peepin, sing homages to the sweet voice and filthy mind of Hank Williams and perform downright righteous versions of Chuck Berry classics. Maybe people go to a Bongoleeros concert with the hope of danger, perhaps with the same fascination that causes motorists to slow when there is an accident on the other side of the central reservation. F**k that too. I say "WHAT ABOUT THE MUSIC!"; stripped down b-movie rock; roll delivered with the energy and conviction of people whose lives depend on it. And they wear good shoes and shirts. Alright!" Mike Flower
The Tale of Peepin Tom Bogal (2006) 7:20
A fairground clairvoyant narrates the tale of PEEPIN TOM BOGAL's search for smut and how it all goes terribly wrong when the God ODAL shows up. PEEPIN TOM has to summon help in the shape of mystic BOGO YOGO from his teepee in Pitchly, West Yorkshire. The subsequent chase scene determines who gets to look at the HOT PANTS and who will be drowned in the lake.
Featuring Sir Charles Bascomb as Peepin Tom Bogal, The Major as Bogo Yogo and GOD ODAL as himself. Music by The Bongoleeros.
THE SPIRIT OF THE CREEPER AWAKES IN THE CARNIVAL OF THE REMEDIALS (2003) 6:30 MINUTES OF WRIGGLING AND JIGGLING DANGER ACTION
WHO IS the CREEPER? He is a master of disguise and therefore could look just like me, you or anyone. The Creeper can change constantly and is able to communicate with the spirit world. The Creeper is anti-static.
HEY GOOD LOOKIN' (1.46) 2005 Hank Williams from beyond the grave live at the Termite Festival
LIVE AT THE PACKHORSE TAVERN (3.00) 2004 Celebrating the first day of Summer
MARKOS VAMVAKARIS RIDES AGAIN (2.45) 2002
SUNDAY 20TH APRIL 12.30
The Termite Club Present - JEFF KEEN: MAD LOVE
UK 1972 | 15 (40minutes)
'A collection of jokes, trailers, and photoplays... Titles include l'Amour Foo, Picasso's Birthday & Dirty Girl. Starring Nadine...'
"Keen is indebted to the surrealist tradition for many of his central concerns: his passion for instability, his sense of 'le merveilleux', his fondness for analogies and puns, his preference for 'lowbrow' art over aestheticism of any kind, his dedication to collage and 'le hasard objectif'. But this 'continental' facet of his work-virtually unique in this country-co-exists with various typically English characteristics, which betray other roots. The tacky glamour/True Beauty of his Family Star productions is at least as close to the end of Brighton Pier as it is to Hollywood B-Movies." - Tony Rayns, Afterimage no. 6, Summer '76.
This screening includes an untitled short film by Keen with Live
accompaniment by Jase Williams (aka Deepkiss 720 )

Malcy Duff (Usurper)- Malcy's Horses (2007) (9minutes)
One of Scotland’s best known experimental cartoonists, though perhaps without the same mass-audience appeal as Alan Grant, Duff has published a number of titles over the years including Black Gnome.
In Malcy’s Horses Duff is filmed drawing all the horses in his head and telling seeingly innocuos annecdotes. A live soundtrack will accompany the latter film, performed by Ali Robertson (USURPER) and Norman Shaw (nimrod33, NOB).
We are still in discussion over a couple of films, more info soon...!
